Two students from Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology won gold medals at the SkillsUSA National Skills and Leadership Conference. Francisco Morales and Suleimy Perez received medals in the video product development category for their five-minute comedy/horror movie.
The theme for their video was “It’s in the water,” and they incorporated special effects and music. The students had to create the video over a short, two-day time span. Morales and Perez are the first National Champions for Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology.
“The students’ ability to develop a video production in such a short amount of time is very impressive and exemplifies the success of the programs we offer students at Frank H. Peterson,” said Principal Greg McCandless. “With the talent these students possess, they will continue to excel at the top of their class and will graduate high school with advance knowledge and skills to lead them in their future endeavors.”
Three other students from the school also competed at the 47th annual National Skills and Leadership Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. Those students are Alex Wright, chapter display; Gary Brown, aviation maintenance technology; and Colton Bolena, t-shirt design. There were more than 14,000 attendees from all across the U.S. with more than 100 skill areas represented at the conference.
