Media Advisory - SpriteŽ Spark Parks Project for Schools Comes to Jacksonville to Celebrate New Playground at Pinedale Elementary

WHO:
Hundreds of students and local residents will join Sprite executives, Pinedale Elementary staff, Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals, Jacksonville Education Commissioner Dr. Donnie Horner and other Jacksonville education and government leaders as they celebrate the refresh of the playground at Pinedale Elementary. The event includes a demolition of the old playground and a special breakfast for student winners of an art and essay contest tied to the new playground.

WHAT:
Sprite Spark Parks Project for Schools is a national campaign focused on refurbishing active spaces for students, in order to create clean, safe and fun areas and to encourage physical fitness among students. Sprite donated $25,000 to Pinedale Elementary to provide a new playground on campus. The play area will be large enough to accommodate 56 students at a time. It replaces the original wooden structure, and will feature a slide, monkey bars, ladders, climbing pole and other kid-friendly features.

This event is part of a multi-year initiative by Sprite to positively impact neighborhood and school active spaces in communities across the United States. Working with teens and parents in 2011, the Sprite Spark Parks Project will put approximately $2 million into building or revamping outdoor spaces in at least 150 American cities.

From now through Sept. 30, consumers can donate My Coke Rewards points to registered schools for the chance to win a $25,000 grant from Sprite to spark their school’s playground or athletic field. For every My Coke Rewards code donated, the selected school will earn one sweepstakes entry to the Sprite Spark Parks Project for Schools Sweepstakes. Schools that are currently not registered in the My Coke Rewards for Schools program can register during this period to earn entries towards the sweepstakes.
