Duval County Public Schools’ Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals, School Board members and Education Commissioner Dr. Donnie Horner joined Sprite executives at Pinedale Elementary to celebrate the refresh of the playground for Pinedale Elementary students as part of the Sprite Spark Parks Project.
Sprite Spark Parks Project for Schools is a national campaign focused on refurbishing active spaces for students, in order to create clean, safe and fun areas and to encourage physical fitness among students. Sprite donated $25,000 to Pinedale Elementary to provide a new playground on campus. The play area will be large enough to accommodate 56 students at a time. It replaces the original wooden structure, and will feature a slide, monkey bars, ladders, climbing pole and other kid-friendly features.
“We are very excited that Pinedale Elementary was selected to receive this grant that allows them to replace their old playground with brand new equipment,” said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. “It is important that the students at Pinedale Elementary have the opportunity to play and exercise on fun, safe equipment.”
This event is part of a multi-year initiative by Sprite to positively impact neighborhood and school active spaces in communities across the United States. Working with teens and parents in 2011, the Sprite Spark Parks Project will put approximately $2 million into building or revamping outdoor spaces in at least 150 American cities.
