Fitch Ratings, an International ratings agency has given Duval County Public Schools a AA- rating for the second year in a row.
“Maintaining this strong rating is no small accomplishment during these tough economic times,” said Duval County Public Schools’ Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. “The district anticipated the continued budget shortfalls and has taken action to efficiently save money.”
The district purposefully increased reserves to current healthy levels in anticipation of future revenue declines. Projected out-year revenue deterioration could necessitate harsh expenditure reductions, and a significant depletion of reserves, resulting in minimal financial flexibility.
Duval County Public Schools operates 177 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
