Media Advisory - Duval County Public Schools Hires New Director of Community and Family Engagement

Jacksonville, FL – Duval County Public Schools’ Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals announced the appointment of Cheryl Riddick as the Director of Community and Family Engagement at the November 1 School Board meeting.

“Cheryl Riddick brings a diverse skill set to Duval County Public Schools, making her highly qualified to head the department of Community and Family Engagement,” said Superintendent Pratt-Dannals. “Her experience as a leader for a large-scale foundation and ability to uphold professional standards will serve our district well in the acquisition of new business and community partnerships.”

Riddick will begin her new role on Monday, December 5, 2011. She will direct the supervisors, coordinators and technical managers within the department of Community and Family Engagement. Riddick will lead the team to identify business and community partnerships in support of successful student education.

Most recently, Cheryl Riddick served as the vice president of Grantmaking Services at The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, a position she has held for more than seven years. In this position, she oversaw the Foundation’s grantmaking and community initiatives’ objectives and led staff support for Eartha M. M. White Legacy Fund Advisory Board. Riddick brings more than 30 years experience in community engagement and communications. Riddick also worked for 14 years in Public Affairs and Community Relations with CitiCards. In this position, Riddick directed community relations strategies, sponsorships and advertising, as well as managing legislative, regulatory and public affairs programs.

“Cheryl brings a wealth of community, philanthropic and corporate experience to her new position,” said Nina Waters, president of The Community Foundation in Jacksonville. “With an abundance of strong relationships throughout the community, she’ll provide thoughtful alignment of existing and potentially new partners for Duval County Public Schools.”

Riddick received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University. She recently served as a board member of the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. She is also a 1999 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville and a 2000 graduate of Leadership Florida.

Duval County Public Schools operates 177 schools and serves approximately 125,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy and culturally diverse world.
