Board Recognizes Schools, Volunteers and Former Chairman
During the presentation portion of the December 6, 2011 monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Board members recognized:
• Alden Road Exceptional Student Center
• Windy Hill Elementary School
• Former Chairman W.C. Gentry
The following individuals were recipients of the 2011-2012 Outstanding School Volunteer Award:
• Kylee D. (student), Abess Park Elementary
• Mark Frank (adult), Joseph Finegan Elementary
• Eula Irwin (senior), Thomas Jefferson Elementary
September book of the month quilt project winners are as follows:
Juried award winners
Both Juried and Community award winners receive monetary awards that are used to support the schools’ art programs.
• Abess Park Elementary - $50 for honorable mention
• Merrill Road Elementary - $150 for third-place
• Enterprise Learning Academy - $300 for second-place
• Chaffee Trail Elementary - $500 for first-place
Community award winners
The following schools were chosen as the Community award winners with monetary awards:
• Chaffee Trail Elementary - $50 for honorable mention
• Martin Luther King Elementary - $150 for third-place
• Louis Sheffield Elementary - $300 for second-place
• R. L. Brown Elementary - $500 for first-place
Merit award winners
The following five schools received Merit award ribbons for their distinguished quilt designs and applications:
• Andrew Robinson Elementary
• Sabal Palm Elementary
• Crystal Springs Elementary
• Atlantic Beach Elementary
• Highlands Elementary
