Darnell-Cookman Counselor Named Semifinalist for Prestigious Award
Jacksonville, FL - Grace Wilhelm, a counselor with Darnell-Cookman
Middle/High School, has been named a semifinalist for the 2012 School Counselor of the Year Award by the American School Counsel Association (ASCA).
Ms. Wilhelm is among three semifinalists from across the country selected for this prestigious award.
“We are very proud of Ms. Wilhelm for her hard work and for helping the district to shine on a national level,” said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. “When our staff stands out among the best in the country it says a lot about the quality of education that our students are receiving.”
The School Counselor of the Year program honors the best of the best – school counselors who are running a top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program at either the elementary, middle or high school level. The program also brings up to 10 finalists and their nominators to Washington, D.C. in early February, where they participate in a congressional briefing, meet with their members of Congress and are honored at the School Counselor of the Year Gala. From a group of finalists, one school counselor of the year is selected.
Nominees must be ASCA members, practicing school counselors with at least five years experience and currently work in a U.S.-based school.
Duval County Public Schools operates 177 schools and serves approximately 125,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy and culturally diverse world.
