Media Advisory - LaVilla Opera Students to Put on Special Production for Prestigious Guests

WHAT:
Students at LaVilla School of the Arts will showcase an original opera presentation called “The Frosted Land” on Thursday, January 19th. Members of the Metropolitan Opera in New York will fly in to Jacksonville to attend the special event. This is the first time in the history of the Metropolitan Opera program that a school has produced their very own production, which will also feature the music of the school’s chamber orchestra.

For the past four years Opera Jacksonville has helped sponsor and administrate a Metropolitan Opera program called “The Met HD Live in Schools” for teachers and students in Duval County Public Schools (DCPS). Since the program’s inception, more than 1,000 DCPS’ students have experienced live Metropolitan Opera broadcasts from local movie theaters.

The Metropolitan Opera in New York provides training materials and tickets for students and teachers. Generous financial contributions allow the program to be offered to students without any cost.

WHEN:
Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 10:15 - 11:30 a.m.

WHERE:
LaVilla School of the Arts, 501 Davis St. N., Jacksonville, FL 32202
