Duval County Public Schools' Students Participate in TVtexbook Launch
Jacksonville, FL - More than 600 hundred Duval County Public Schools' second- and third-grade students have been selected to participate in the initial TVtextbook launch project as part of Read It Forward Jax!.
Read It Forward Jax! is a district-wide initiative in Duval County focusing on improving the reading performance for students in grades K-12. TVtextbooks are the digital component of this initiative that will provide a phenomenal technology resource to students. TVtextbooks will innovatively connect students to learning by turning the television into an interactive learning device. The goal of the TVtextbook is to make digital education available to all students.
TVtextbooks bring the benefits of a home computer and internet access to students who have previously not had this resource. This technology extends the learning time of students beyond the classroom and provides additional learning opportunities at home. The TVtextbook gives students the opportunity to practice literacy and reading comprehension skills on their own.
Parent meetings are being held at select elementary schools to inform parents on the use of TVtextbooks:
- Sadie Tillis Elementary - Tuesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.
- West Jax Elementary - Tuesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.
- S.P. Livingston Elementary - Wednesday, January 18 at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
- Pinedale Elementary - Thursday, January 19 at 5 p.m.
- Annie R. Morgan Elementary - Thursday, January 19 at 5 p.m.
At these meetings parents or guardians will be introduce to and provided with the fun and interactive learning tool that will help close the digital divide and assist students in improving their literacy skills.
