Duval County Public Schools and Chick-fil-A Hosted Successful Family Reading Night to Support Read It Forward Jax!

Jacksonville, FL - Duval County Public Schools and Chick-fil-A hosted Family Reading Night at 11 Jacksonville Chick-fil-A locations to support Read It Forward Jax!. These Chick-fil-A locations across the city opened their doors to students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members to promote the importance of reading amongst students of all ages.

Superintendent Pratt-Dannals, School Board members and other dignitaries attended different locations to lead read-a-louds and discuss ways the community can help students improve their literacy skills. Each store helped set-up and organize the evening to best facilitate the activities and accommodate the needs of the participants.

In addition to opening up their store for student activities and book readings, each Chick-fil-A is donating 10% of their proceeds from the night to Read It Forward Jax! to provide resources to students to continue to improve reading proficiency levels. Chick-fil-A will write a check to Duval County Public Schools for $3,000 that will be used to purchase tools such as classroom libraries that will give students hands-on access to necessary literacy materials.

“I have heard great, encouraging feedback from everyone who participated and attended this event,” said Superintendent Pratt-Dannals. “I am confident that it will evoke excitement and a renewed desire amongst parents and the community to focus on reading. We are so grateful that Chick-fil-A chose to partner with us for this event, their involvement contributed to the overall success of the evening.”

The ultimate goal of Read It Forward Jax! is to have all students reading on grade level at every grade, all the time. This district-wide event was a great way to make parents and community members aware of the need to be actively involved in promoting reading comprehension at home and in the community. When students are supported both inside and outside the classroom they are guaranteed to succeed.
