Duval County Public Schools Changes Monthly Meeting Broadcasts

Jacksonville, FL - Duval County Public Schools will change the way it broadcasts its monthly school board meetings beginning with the February 7, 2012 meeting. Board meetings will now be seen live on Comcast channel 99 or live online at www.duvalschools.org.

Before February’s Duval County School Board (DCSB) meeting, the district contracted with WJCT to broadcast its monthly meetings. Due to continued budget shortfalls the decision was made last year to internally produce the DCSB meetings. This will give the district a reoccurring cost savings while also providing an additional avenue for people to learn about the business of Duval County Public Schools.

The DCSB meetings will be produced at the district’s administration building with the signal being sent to the Schultz Center for Teaching & Leadership. From there, the signal is sent to Comcast channel 99. This new capability will give viewers anywhere in the world access to DCSB meetings via the web. An archive service will also be set up so viewers can instantly view past board meetings.

Duval County School Board meetings occur the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. All meetings are open to the public and take place at the district’s administration building at 1701 Prudential Drive in Jacksonville.

Duval County Public Schools operates 177 schools and serves approximately 125,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy and culturally diverse world.
