State Board of Education Vote - FCAT 2.0 Writing

In an emergency session this morning, the State Board of Education passed a resolution to count as proficient any student who scored a 3.0 or higher on the 2012 Writing assessment. This is for this year only and the Florida Department of Education will work with an external agency (Buros) to examine what may have caused the drastic decline from last year in the percent of students scoring 4.0+. This means the following:

GRADE 2011 (4.0+) 2012 (3.0+)
4 81% 81%
8 82% 77%
10 80% 84%

Individual writing scores are expected to be released later this week.

Duval County Public Schools operates 190 schools and serves approximately 125,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy and culturally diverse world.
