Media Advisory - District Hosts Fourth Annual Urban Institute

WHAT:
Duval County Public Schools will host its annual Summer Urban Institute Forum. The two-day event is for principals, teachers and community partners.

This year's event will feature three keynote speakers:

  • Pedro Antonio Noguera, Ph.D., is a professor of education at New York University. Mr. Noguera also serves as the executive director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education and the co-director of the Institute for the Study of Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings. Mr. Noguera will be the keynote speaker for the luncheon and the evening community forum on Monday, June 25. The evening session will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. and is invitation only.

  • Anthony G. Smith has been an administrator with Cincinnati Public Schools for almost 20 years and has been the principal of Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School for the past 10 years. He was recently promoted to assistant superintendent for Cincinnati Public Schools. Mr. Smith will serve as a keynote speaker during the luncheon on Tuesday, June 26.

  • Michael D. Turner has been an educator with Cincinnati Public Schools for more than 25 years and has served the last 10 years as the senior institute manager at Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School. Mr. Turner will also serve as a keynote speaker for the luncheon on Tuesday, June 26.

Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26, 2012
*Luncheons start at noon on both days.
Evening forum: Monday, June 25, 2012, 5 to 7 p.m.
