Media Advisory - Jefferson Davis to Host Grand Opening Ceremony for Lower Cambridge Program
WHAT:
Jefferson Davis Middle School will open the school doors to welcome their students, parents and community members to the new Cambridge Lower Secondary I Program. The Grand Opening Ceremony will give parents and students a chance to become familiar with the new coursework and speak with district and city personnel about the program.
The afternoon's events will begin with a parent meeting and student orientation at 1 p.m. Attendees are then invited for the Grand Opening Ceremony portion of the day, which will commence at 2 p.m. Several district administration will speak including School Board Chair Betty Burney; Addison Davis, Cluster Chief of Middle Schools; Dr. Carolyn Girardeau, Executive Director of High School Programs; Principal Shilene Singleton; and Dr. Donnie Horner, Education Commissioner for the Office of the Mayor.
Jefferson Davis Middle is the first of two schools in Duval County to be accepted as a Cambridge Lower Secondary I School. Cambridge, comparable to a gifted program, will give the Jefferson Davis students who are accepted access to a specialized curriculum that will prepare them for higher levels of learning.
