Media Advisory - Biscayne Elementary Takes Proactive Steps in Epilepsy Education
WHAT:
Biscayne Elementary students and staff will be trained on the proper procedures for handling someone who is experiencing an epileptic seizure.
Every year, 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with some form of Epilepsy. Of these 200,000 people, 45,000 of them are children under the age of 15. Biscayne Elementary's staff wants to be prepared to handle a situation should it ever arise. All faculty and staff members at Biscayne Elementary have taken an online pre-assessment test to indicate their knowledge of Epilepsy. Everyone received a certificate based on their results.
All fifth-grade students will be trained on November 14, and all staff members will be trained on November 28 with a representative from the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeast Florida.
