Spotlight On Education
Much Ado About Books' Children's Chapter
This year’s Much Ado
About Books annual literary celebration not only
provides amazing opportunities for book-loving adults,
but it also offers the a wonderful experience for
children through the event’s Children’s Chapter — a
place where children ages two – 12 (accompanied by
parents) can enjoy a variety of free and fun reading
experiences. The theme of this year’s Children’s
Chapter is “Books Can Take You Anywhere,” and one of the
most exciting places it will take young attendees is to
Biscuit’s Birthday Party. The free party will
offer access to Biscuit, the beloved dog from the
acclaimed Biscuit series, and other costumed
characters, a special reading by the author of the
Biscuit books, Alyssa Satin Capucilli, and the
requisite birthday cake. Other free activities include
a celebrity reading by Mayor Peyton at 11 a.m.,
interactive booths from four other children’s book
authors, hands-on crafts and activities focused on the
joy of reading, including a Beatrix Potter Booth
celebrating the 100th anniversary of the
Tale of Tom Kitten.
There also will be valuable
information for parents, including information from
Nemours’ BrightStart! Dyslexia Initiative, Target’s
Ready. Sit. Read! Book Club, and RALLY Jacksonville!
There even will be on-site registration for the
voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
The Children’s Chapter at Much Ado
About Books is free and open to the public from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Prime Osborn
Convention Center. RSVPs are required. Please visit
the
Much Ado About Books’ web site, or call 630-1995 to
sign up to attend the Children’s Chapter event. |
