Patrick Curran of Terry Parker High School and Mary Chowenhill of Robert E. Lee High School will be presenting
Economics: Destination Jaxport at the National Council of Economic Education (NCEE) Global Association of Teachers of Economics (GATE) Conference from October 9-10 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
NCEE GATE is the largest nationwide conference focusing on K-12 economic, financial and entrepreneurship education. Curran and Chowenhill will be presenting lessons on economic efficiency, job search, derived demand and protectionism.
The lessons, which Curran and Chowenhill developed in partnership with the Jacksonville Port Authority, provide students with real life examples of topics taught in both standard and AP Economics.
Currently, Economics: Destination Jaxport is being used in classrooms in Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, Idaho and Wisconsin to teach economic concepts. Nowhere else in the United States are there such detailed lessons using a port as the basis. Teachers from around the country who attend the conference will have the opportunity to bring these lessons back to their classrooms.
