On November 19, Richard L. Brown Elementary School celebrated its recent authorization as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The school will now offer the IB Primary Years Programme, a transdisciplinary program of international education designed for students ages three to 12.
Staff at R.L. Brown have been working diligently for more than four years to implement IB Primary Years, and
it's the first school in Duval County authorized to implement the new program and 13th in Florida.
During the school’s celebration of reaching this important milestone, students and staff heard from guest speaker, Anne Quinn, a visiting international faculty representative. Students also presented musical, dance and art selections, and sent off their school mascot, Winkie the Bear. Winkie will be embarking on a journey to visit International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Schools in many parts of the world. His first stop is Malmo, Sweden followed by a sojourn in Beijing, China.
