DCPS Accounts Payable Department Brings in $250,000 for the District

On July 31, Evan Tullos, the senior vice president of treasury services at Bank of America, presented the Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) Accounts Payable Department with a check for $257,269.03. The money, a rebate the district received from the first nine months of using the new e-Payables program, will be invested in the district’s classrooms.

e-Payables is an electronic credit card payment program used to pay vendors, which saves the district the costs of printing paper checks. The program also allows for an additional cash float on funds, giving the district the ability to earn a rebate on amounts paid by the credit card.

During the presentation, Tullos commended the district for its hard work and noted that the district's use of the e-Payables program has become an example for other school districts in the state and country.

e-Payables was implemented in September 2007 after it was identified as a cost savings strategy that would also generate revenue by Project Invest, a task force formed by the Alliance for World Class Education and DCPS to identify possible cost saving changes in the district’s business administrative offices.

"This rebate represents the hard work and determination of Project Invest and the Accounts Payable Department working together to invest in the future of Duval County students," said Lisa Chason, DCPS manager of accounts payable. "We look forward to the continued success of our program and generating more dollars for the classroom."
