Students at schools throughout Duval County are aiding in the fight against breast cancer by supporting women and men who cannot afford a mammogram.
The students at North Shore K-8 have raised more than $1,600 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation through their Buddy Bucks Campaign. North Shore’s magnet program is a microsociety, which has students operating a city within the school. The Buddy Bucks Campaign was the school’s first community service project, focusing on building a sense of community and social awareness.
Students at Sandalwood High School collected $1,000 for Buddy Bucks, while Lone Star Elementary raised nearly $1,800 and West Jacksonville Elementary more than $700.
First Coast News Anchor Jeannie Blaylock, whose station has partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help raise money for mammograms, will be collecting the money from the schools.
