Jamel Woods, a student in the Samuel W. Wolfson High School Finance Career Academy and Nique' Jenkins, a student in the A. Phillip Randolph High School Information Technology Career Academy, have been selected as winners in the Internship Showcase Contest.
The Internship Showcase Contest, sponsored by the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and WorkSource, required students to submit an essay and a multi-media presentation detailing their internship experience and how it affected their life.
There were four showcase winners out of 65 students; Jamel placed second and Nique’ fourth. Both students received a $100 Target gift card.
Participating students secured their internships last year through WorkSource’s Youth Skills Grant. Jamel interned at Community First Credit Union in the automated transactions department, and Nique' was an intern for the JEA Information Technology Co-op.
Career academies are unique "schools-within-schools" in high schools across Northeast Florida that offer career-related classes that focus on acquiring technical skills for a chosen industry.
