Gail Purdy, a teacher in the Duval County Public Schools Juvenile Justice Schools, has been selected as the 2008 National Teacher of the Year for Catapult Learning, Title I.
Catapult Learning (formerly Sylvan Education Solutions) partners with public schools and school districts to provide research-based educational and support services designed to improve the performance of at-risk students. It is a contracted service that the district’s Title I Department utilizes in schools for reading.
“I salute Ms. Purdy's commitment, professionalism and dedication to teaching all students,” said Dr. Marvin McQueen, principal of the district’s Juvenile Justice Schools.
Ms. Purdy will receive the award at the National Catapult Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, taking place in November.
