J. Allen Axson Teams Up with Community First Credit Union of Florida

This school year, J. Allen Axson Montessori School has partnered with Community First Credit Union of Florida to help students learn the value of saving, and the importance of financial responsibility.

Through the new “Deposit Day” program, students will learn how to save their allowance money or cash gifts in a high dividend Community First Youth Advantage Account.

To kick off the program, Community First representatives and some of the school’s teachers gave a one-hour financial education seminar to students in the first through fifth grades, and presented each class with the book Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst.

Every Tuesday throughout the year, Community First staff will visit the school to receive deposits from students, and to provide them with a time to ask questions and learn about healthy money habits.

Parents also have the opportunity to learn about additional youth advantage benefits including online financial education, certificates of deposit, reloadable student cards and other products that “grow” with students as they age.

“We appreciate Community First teaming up with our school to educate students about the importance of saving money, especially during these tough economic times,” said Principal Paula Renfro.

Students who participate in the program will also receive a free piggy bank and quarter card to help them get started with saving.
