Baldwin Middle-Senior High School's Intensive Reading Department was recently awarded a grant for $1,500 from Dollar General.
Nancy Ballard, the school's lead career academy teacher, wrote the grant to enhance the READ 180 classrooms. The funds will be used to purchase additional Scholastic books for the libraries.
"Currently the school has more READ 180 classes than they have books to support them," said Ballard. "The new books will provide our teachers and students with more resources to promote literacy."
READ 180 is an intensive reading intervention program that helps educators confront the problem of adolescent illiteracy and special needs reading on multiple fronts, using technology, print and professional development.
