Pine Forest Elementary School of the Arts hosted a Family Fitness Night on November 6 to help emphasize the importance of good nutritional and exercise habits.
The second annual event, sponsored by the PTA Fitness Committee, provided students and their families with many fun activities to participate in, including: a hip-hop dance class; nutritious cooking demonstrations; karate demonstrations; and a puppet show about nutritious choices in exercise and nutrition. Students also could participate in a healthy cake walk, and donate their Halloween candy to troops overseas.
Various sessions were provided on topics such as how to read food labels and proper hand washing techniques. Free blood pressure and BMI screenings were offered by student nurses from the University of North Florida College of Health.
Classes with the most attendees will be visited by Jaguars players who will talk to students about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
