'Fright Night' Takes Fear From FCAT

Hyde Park Elementary helped students and parents better understand the FCAT on the evening of October 23 by hosting an FCAT ‘Fright Night.’ The event, which was designed to take the fear out of the important test for both students and parents, was organized by the school’s leadership team.

When school faculty met at the beginning of the year, they realized it was imperative that their parents and students were prepared for and comfortable with the FCAT before the March testing. They decided that October would be a good time - since it’s the beginning of fall and Halloween – to connect the FCAT with a timely event that would help both students and parents with Feeling Comfortable About the Test.

Every subject committee developed activities for parents to participate in while in each workshop session, which covered mathematics, science, reading, writing and technology for grades K- 5. Each session combined the fun of the season, while providing parents with strategies to assist students as they prepare for the FCAT.
