Spotlight On Education

New Track at Hendricks Avenue Elementary

On Friday, May 2, Hendricks Avenue Elementary officially dedicated its new track at an outdoor ceremony attended by the entire school, parents and community members.

All of the students gathered together on the track wearing their Hendricks Avenue Elementary T-shirts and carried signs thanking all of the organizations involved in supporting their track.

Raising money for the track has been ongoing for the past two years, and was a community effort among the school, district, parents, business partners and City Councilman Art Shad.

To help fund the track, the school sponsored a family fun day that raised more than $30,000, and also had contributions from the school district and business partners.

During the dedication, the Samuel W. Wolfson High School band and cheerleaders performed a pep rally for the crowd. Afterwards, students marched around the track for its first official lap.

Community members will also benefit from the track, as everyone will have access to it on the weekends.
