Highlands Middle School had some special visitors on January 26 when Navy personnel from the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) Naval Hospital volunteered to help revitalize the school.
Capt. R. Bono, MC, USN, Commanding Officer, and 18 members of his command painted hallways, cleaned floors, pressure washed walkways and did some other general cleaning duties.
Also on hand to help clean up the school were employees of GCA Services Group, the custodial contractor for Duval County Public Schools (DCPS). Rick Strickland, a manager with GCA who is also a retired Navy culinary specialist chief petty officer from NAS Jax, coordinated the clean up effort.
Highlands Middle School and Duval County Public Schools appreciates the Navy Command’s support.
"We thank these fine individuals for their distinguished service," said Paul Soares, chief of operations support at DCPS. "Their willingness to allow such partnering is most welcome and is a noteworthy achievement within the Jacksonville community and Duval County public schools, specifically."
