Paxon Students Place Second in Nationwide Engineering Competition

The final national rankings for the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) Competitions have been released, and the Paxon School for Advanced Studies varsity team finished second in the United States in Division 4, which is for selective schools with 151 or more students in the senior class. Division 4 is thought to be the toughest division, as it has some of the most selective high schools in the nation.

JETS is a nationwide team competition for students in grades nine through 12, working together to solve real-world engineering scenarios using knowledge they have learned in the classroom.

This year, 1180 teams from 648 high schools took part in the nationwide competition.

Paxon's junior varsity team, which seniors are not eligible to compete, also did well, finishing seventh in the United States among the junior varsity teams in the same division.

Both teams were awarded trophies for their national championship level performance.

The members of the winning JETS teams from Paxon are: Varsity - Christian Tan, Jordan Hester, Donald Chang, Miguel Bejar, Adam Gazaleh, Daoud Rana, David Hartman and Ji Ho Lee; Junior Varsity - Kelsey Cox, Rob Brice, Patrick Martin, Garrett Carter, Rick Aasen, Sean Lynch, Nityasree Srialluri and Sirisha Thambulum.

Additionally, the Stanton College Preparatory School varsity team finished 38th and the junior varsity team finished 13th in Division 7 of the national competition.

The JETS team coach at Paxon is AP Physics Teacher Robin Spital, and at Stanton, Allen Gandell.
