Ortega and Central Riverside elementary schools have been selected to receive the Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF).
At Ortega Elementary, the $5,000 grant will be used to help fund the school's "Beautify Ortega" project. The project includes purchasing supplies needed to improve the school’s landscaping. The school plans to revive their butterfly garden, place tire mulch on the playground and plant trees and flowers around the campus.
“This beautification project will provide a welcoming environment for our students, parents and faculty when they return this fall,” said Vickie Kummer, school counselor at Ortega Elementary.
Central Riverside Elementary has used the grant funds to purchase park benches, picnic tables and chairs, trees and flowers to create an "Outdoor Suite Escape" for the students.
The LCEF recognizes the importance of parent involvement in education. To empower parents and further encourage their involvement in their children's schools, the Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program funds school improvement projects initiated by parent groups.
