Masan Students Visit Duval County Schools

Duval County Public Schools' Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and students from several Duval County schools, including First Coast High School, Terry Parker High School, Kirby-Smith Middle School and LaVilla Middle School of the Arts, had the opportunity to meet with 10 middle-school age students from Masan, Korea when the Masan Committee of the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association (JSCA) hosted the students.

A sister-cities relationship is when a U.S. city establishes a connection with an international city or community to promote peace, respect and cultural understanding, and to stimulate economic development.

During their time in Jacksonville, the Masan students also visited the Jacksonville Public Library, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, the Museum of Science and History, the University of North Florida, FCCJ, and the Mayport Naval Base.

The JSCA, a not-for-profit, volunteer organization, has been involved in sister-cities relationships since 1967. Jacksonville has six sister cities: Bahia Blanca, Argentina; Murmansk, Russia; Masan, South Korea; Nantes, France; Yingkou, China; and Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
