Jowann Reed, an RN at Landmark Middle School, was selected as the first recipient of the John A. Bowers’ Nurse of the Year Award for her outstanding service to Duval County Public Schools (DCPS).
Ms. Reed was chosen because she exemplified the best attributes of a school nurse. She has a history of always making herself available to other nurses and, this year, to improve communication between all nurses and the district, she created the Nurses NEWS newsletter.
The first annual John A. Bowers' Nurse of the Year Award honors Dr. John A. Bowers, a district physician who has served DCPS for the past 21 years. The award was presented on May 14 at a dinner sponsored by Animus and LifeScan at the People's Bank in Baymeadows.
