Duval County elementary and middle school students are being encouraged to "Just Read It" by Jaguars linebacker Mike Peterson. The Mike Peterson Foundation's "Just Read It Star of the Month" Program recognizes outstanding students at the elementary and middle school level for reading improvement, and their commitment to reading and attendance.
Each month, teachers and staff at Duval County elementary and middle schools can nominate two students per school in grades 3 - 8 based on pre-established program criteria. A selection committee, comprised of representatives from the Mike Peterson Foundation and Duval County Public Schools, evaluates the monthly student nominations submitted by each school. The top six scores in both divisions (elementary and middle) are named "Just Read It Star of the Month" and those students receive a personalized award, as well as an exclusive visit with Peterson at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.

Nominations for the February Star of the Month are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, January 25, and winners will be announced by February 1.
