UNF Fraternity Visits Pinedale Elementary for Reading Event

The Alpha Delta Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity from the University of North Florida celebrated Achievement Week 2008 on November 13 by visiting Pinedale Elementary for its annual ‘Assault on Literacy’ program.

During the event, the college students read to children in the kindergarten through third grades, with their goal being “to uplift the minds of the school’s younger students.”

The fourth and fifth grade students participated in an essay contest, and were required to write a one-page essay about how they feel citizens can help stop the amount of crime in Duval County. Once the essays were submitted, the fraternity selected one student from each grade level as a winner and those winners received a pizza party for the entire class.

To end the day, there was a school-wide awards ceremony honoring the two winners, followed by a "Hop Show" dance program presented by Omega Psi Phi.
