Seventeen students enrolled in the A. Philip Randolph Public Safety Academy graduated from the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office (JSO) Police Explorers Program on November 25.
The JSO Police Explorers program educates and involves youth in police operations and develops their interest in the law enforcement profession. Explorers provides students who want to pursue a career in law enforcement with the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the challenges and job skills that make up their community’s police force. The students completed eight weeks of coursework and community service with advisors from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
During the graduation ceremony, held at the FCCJ North Campus, students were also recognized for raising $25,000 for charity by parking cars at several city events.
Last year, A. Philip Randolph had two students accepted into the program, and school officials are excited to see such a large increase in the number of students receiving their Explorers Badge. Of the 25 students who graduated from the program, 17 were from Randolph.
"The students enrolled in our Public Safety Academy are doing wonderful things within our community," said Assistant Principal N'Deeo. "The students and their teacher, Ms Simpson, should be commended for a job well done."
