On June 13, duPont Middle School's Recyclers at duPont (RAD) Club was honored at the 17th Annual Mayor’s Environmental Luncheon.
During the luncheon, six environmental groups presented awards to individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the environment.
Sixth-grade students created the environmental RAD club and took on a weekend project landscaping the areas around some of the school's portables.
In the beginning, the club's focus was on landscaping and has since broadened to include a butterfly garden, a bird refuge, a historic oak grove and much more.
Club members fund their projects by recycling cans and newspaper, thus reflecting their name, Recyclers at duPont (RAD).
