Schools throughout the district celebrated Veteran's Day by planning events and activities to recognize our soldiers' dedication to protecting America's freedom.
Thousands of students at Enterprise Learning Academy, and Beauclerc, Sabal Palm, Chaffee Trail and Oak Hill elementary schools honored the military by participating in a school-wide flag-raising ceremony. At Beauclerc, members of the Navy Band were in attendance to perform patriotic songs, while the students at Oak Hill were dressed as their favorite patriotic heroes.
Jennifer Turner, the school instructional coach at Long Branch Elementary, spent weeks organizing a special Veteran's Day program. She, along with her principal Marva McKinney, and music and art teachers, Gregory Cuje' and Jonathan Lynn, developed an hour-long program that brought the whole school together to celebrate our veterans.
Students from each grade level sung different patriotic songs, such as America the Beautiful and 50 Nifty United States. Around the room, student renditions of Jasper Johns flag art were displayed.
During the program, several students read letters of appreciation they had written to active duty personnel, reservists and veterans. Their letters, along with hundreds of others from students throughout the school, were presented to representatives from NAS Jax.
