Three Duval County Public Schools' (DCPS) students were recently named winners of the Achievement Awards in Writing contest sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English.
A total of 1,789 students were nominated by their schools from across the nation to participate in this program, and a panel of judges made up of high school and college English teachers selected 525 of these students as outstanding writers. The following DCPS’ students won top honors: Ryan Clay and Miguel Mendoza, both from Sandalwood High School, and Christina Csensich from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.
The Achievement Awards in Writing recognize excellence in writing by high school juniors. Each student wrote a timed essay in response to an analytic, persuasive, or reflective prompt, as well as submitted a portfolio of poetic and/or prose writing.
