DCPS' Elementary Students Present to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra

Payton Moynihan, a student at Whitehouse Elementary, and Gregory Drive Elementary students David Holmes and Tyler Russell, were selected to read their responses to the writing prompt "What Music Means to Me" at the Young People's Concert on October 29 at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

Each year, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra performs for fourth- and fifth-grade students during its Young People's Concert. This year, the symphony required the students to submit a written prompt to "What Music Means to Me," the theme of the concert.

During the performance, musicians from each instrument family – percussion, string, brass and woodwinds – shared with the students why they became musicians and what music truly means to them.

Music education is an integral part of the Jacksonville Symphony's mission. Each year, more than 100,000 children participate in the Symphony's extensive array of interactive and engaging programs.
