Mayor John Peyton recently presented Alfred I. duPont Middle School's RAD (Releafing at duPont) Club with the Award of Excellence at the 2009 "Ideas & Actions" A Vision for Jacksonville luncheon.
The duPont RAD club has been in existence 16 years and continually works after school to beautify the campus. Projects have included campus clean up, landscaping, planting several flower and vegetable gardens, planting and nurturing 25 trees, creating a historical tree grove, celebrating JAXPride week with posters throughout the school, and painting and maintaining bird houses, both on duPont’s campus and at Taylor Manor Residences. Monthly community guest speakers help the club advance their horticultural and environmental understanding.
Last year, the club was honored at the 17th Annual Mayor's Environmental Luncheon, and A Keep Jacksonville Beautiful award winner bench was presented to the school.
"duPont's RAD Club students are excited about making a visual environmental difference, and beautifying our campus for the current and future students of duPont to enjoy," said Principal Teresa Mowbray. "They would like to express their gratitude to Ms. Susan Harrell and JaxPride for the honor of this year’s prestigious award."
