DCPS' Fifth-graders Win Poster Contest

Eight Duval County Public Schools' (DCPS) fifth-graders were named winners in HandsOn Jacksonville's First Annual "Be the Change…Volunteer!" poster contest.

HandsOn Jacksonville created this contest to bring awareness to the impact volunteers have on our community. The contest, which was open to all DCPS' fifth-graders, required students to create a poster that displayed the importance of volunteering.

The winning posters were on display during HandsOn Jacksonville's Annual Celebration of Service, held on April 2.

The winners are:

  • First Place - Austin C., Mandarin Oaks Elementary, received a one-night stay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort, and four one-day park passes to any Disney attraction, both courtesy of Disney. In addition, Austin also received four one-day passes to Universal Studios in Orlando;
  • Second Place - Shawnee G., Arlington Heights Elementary, received four Waterpark Plus passes to Adventure Landing; and
  • Third Place - Melissa B., Mandarin Oaks Elementary, received two Power cards to Dave and Busters.

Honorable Mentions

  • Hye K., Mandarin Oaks Elementary
  • Makella B., Don Brewer Elementary
  • Katina B., Timucuan Elementary
  • Savannah C., Don Brewer Elementary
  • Karla M., Don Brewer Elementary

All honorable mentions received free passes to the IMAX Theatre.
