$3,000 Grant Awarded to Abess Park Elementary

Abess Park Elementary was recently awarded a $3,000 grant from the Sandalwood Oversight Committee.

School volunteer Maria Sayers, who has been tutoring and mentoring students at Abess Park for more than three years, decided to apply for the grant after receiving encouragement from Principal Caroline Wells.

During her presentation to the Sandalwood Oversight Committee, Sayers discussed how the funds would be used to provide materials and salaries for more teachers to participate in the tutoring program.

Many other funding requests that were made to the committee had to be cut or reduced, but the Abess Park proposal received a lot of support. Members of the committee were very appreciative of the teachers going into the community for tutoring, and the school was awarded the entire requested amount.
