Poodle skirts were back "in" at John Stockton Elementary, along with the Twist and Wha Whatusi, when the school's fourth-grade students celebrated the '50s, '60s and '70s during their performance of American Grandstand.
Students spent weeks preparing for the play, which was written, produced and directed by Cindy Fitch. They learned special dances, how to dress appropriately for that time period, and the history of rock and roll.
"American Grandstand captured the hearts and imaginations of our students, introducing them to the music, clothing, and dance moves of an older generation," said Joye Madison, Stockton's technology coordinator and an organizer of the event. "Not only did the students learn a new way to dress and use hair products, they also learned that the old music their grandparents enjoyed and danced to is pretty cool."
