Enterprise Students ASPIRE to Great Careers

Students at Enterprise Learning Academy spent time preparing for the future by analyzing jobs that are of interest to them around 21st century career options during the school's ASPIRE event.

ASPIRE, which stands for All Students Pursue Individual Roads to Employment, was the culmination activity for the students' career studies unit.

Throughout April and May, students in every grade level researched possible career options and prepared a presentation about their chosen career for their peers. More than 50 careers, including those in the medical, technology, business, communication, construction, public service and performing arts fields, were studied and presented.

In one class, students reenacted an airline flight, playing the roles of pilot, the flight crew and air traffic controllers. They also discussed famous historical figures of flight, such as the Wright brothers and Amelia Earhart.

Musical theater was on display in another class when students performed The Lion King. They learned about set design, creating costumes and props, acting and directing as they explored the job opportunities available in the entertainment industry.

Students in a fourth-grade class became environmental scientists, analyzing water and soil samples for chemicals, organic vapors and contamination.

Guest speakers also visited Enterprise during ASPIRE to discuss their chosen careers, including how resumes, portfolios, attire, education, goal setting and networking all play a role.

"All of the events we planned for ASPIRE allow us to help students answer the question, What job might I have when I grow up?," said Principal Sheridan Brown. "Students and teachers have done a marvelous job researching and presenting, and having community members join us to discuss their careers was an additional way for students to understand the work and dedication that is required for their career choice."
