Duval County Public Schools recently hosted its first FAME Awards Ceremony, which was organized by Stanton College Preparatory School's television instructor Diana Blount and librarian Nancy Murrey.
FAME is the Florida Association of Media Educators and is the statewide professional organization of library media specialists, technologists and educational television specialists. Each year, FAME sponsors the Jim Harbin Student Media Festival, a statewide competition designed to recognize the excellent work being done across the state of Florida by student media producers.
To recognize local students, organizers put together the district’s first annual FAME Awards Ceremony.
"Duval County teachers and librarians are seeing blossoming talent right here in the River City, and are doing all they can to encourage and foster these young people as they test their creative visions," said Blount. "The FAME Awards Ceremony is a way to recognize these talented students."
During the ceremony, student producers, television teachers, library media specialists, principals and the students’ family members viewed first-place video entries while enjoying pizza and soda. Drawings for door prizes took place throughout the event.
Winning entries were announced, and will be sent along to be judged in the regional competition before being sent to the state finals.
Schools with first-place wins were: Andrew Robinson Elementary, Martin Luther King Elementary, Jacksonville Beach Elementary, Southside Estates Elementary, Twin Lakes Academy, Mandarin Middle School, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and Stanton College Preparatory School.
