Forrest Teacher Selected for American Society of News Editors (ASNE) Journalism Award

Lisa McCombs, a graduate of Forrest High School who is now a reading teacher at the school, was recently selected to attend the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) Reynolds High School Journalism Institute.

The Reynolds Institute is an intensive two-week newspaper journalism training program for high school teachers, providing them with the skills needed to produce a top-notch scholastic publication, such as a school newspaper. Ms. McCombs will attend the program this summer at the University of Nevada at Reno’s School of Journalism, and all of her expenses are paid by the institute.

As a student at Forrest, Ms. McCombs loved working on the school newspaper, and when she returned as a teacher, she worked to re-establish the paper. Since Ms. McCombs teaches READ 180 during the day, the newspaper is an after-school program.

The American Society of News Editors is the principal organization of the top editors at daily newspapers. The Reynolds High School Journalism Institute is funded from 2007-09 by a three-year, $2.3 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
