Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour Brings Joy to Students During Jacksonville Stop

Walt Disney Pictures Studio made a stop in Jacksonville on October 20 for Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour, promoting the upcoming theatrical release of Disney's A Christmas Carol, based on the Charles Dickens classic tale. Duval County public schools students from around the district were able to attend the free attraction to learn more about filmmaking technology and get a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming movie.

The attraction, which was held at the Amtrak Station, opened with a ribbon cutting by staff from Disney and Amtrak, as well Todd Roobin, director of the Jacksonville Film & Television Commission, Florida’s Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp and Mayor John Peyton's Chief of Staff, Adam Hollingsworth.

Hollingsworth designated October 20 as Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour Day, and thanked the tour for stopping in Jacksonville. The tour has passed through 36 states and has traveled more than 16,000 miles.

Justina Road Elementary Principal Angela Maxey brought a few students to the exhibit for its opening. They were able to see original artifacts of Charles Dickens, on loan from his museum in London, plus get a sneak-peek of the movie in a 3D inflatable theater. For the students, one of the best parts of the attraction was getting to morph their faces into characters from the movie using Hewlett Packard TouchSmart PCs.

Disney's A Christmas Carol will be released on November 6. For more information about the train tour, sponsored by Hewlett Packard and driven by Amtrak, visit www.christmascaroltraintour.com.
