John E. Ford K-8, a language immersion and Montessori magnet school, is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. In recognition of the month, the school's Spanish and Hispanic faculty prepared food items from their home country to share with their fellow teachers and staff.

Teachers from the Spanish Immersion and Spanish Montessori program worked together to plan the event, and had food from Puerto Rico, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
"We wanted to promote our school's Spanish immersion programs while celebrating our Hispanic heritage," said first-grade Spanish Immersion teacher Rosa Sanchez-Mercado. "Our faculty is made up of people with different cultures and tastes, and we wanted to give everyone a taste of our Hispanic flavors so they can get to know us better."
Students enrolled in John E. Ford's Spanish Immersion Program are taught all subjects in Spanish, and the students read, write and speak Spanish in their daily course of instruction.
In the Spanish Immersion/Montessori Combination, the classes are taught using the Montessori Method. Both methods recognize that the best way for children to learn a foreign language is to use it extensively every day.
