Two seventh-grade
Baldwin Middle students, Breanna D. and Leila A., got inspired to help fulfill a young girl's wish while watching The Steve Harvey Show. The show highlighted the story of Danielle Bartlett, a 10-year-old girl in West Virginia who is suffering from cancer. Breanna and Leila wanted to do something about it and got their classmates and community involved.
"We thought we would get more cards for her if we got as many people as we could involved," said Leila.
Baldwin Principal Rhonda Motley encouraged two elementary schools to participate, and so far their combined effort has resulted in 535 cards, and the number keeps growing.
"I think it is wonderful what these girls are doing," said Baldwin High sophomore Joshua Love.
"I felt bad for Danielle because a lot of kids her age would ask for toys, and she's only asking for cards," said Breanna.
Anyone interested in sending a card to Danielle to meet her 10,000 goal and give her one more smile should send cards to Danielle Bartlett, 260 Country Club Road, Richwood, WV 26261.
