Duval County Public Schools' middle school students, as well as students from other county schools, recently participated in Math Field Day at Julia Landon College Preparatory and Leadership Development School. A total of 21 schools were represented.
Coordinated for more than 15 years by teachers Mary Badillo and Jean Spiwak, Math Field Day provides students with the opportunity to compete with and against their peers in a math competition. Students work in both groups and on their own to solve math problems in competitions like the calculator, computation, estimation and graphing events. There is also a team math quiz.
The schools that placed in the top five were: Christ the King,
Julia Landon,
James Weldon Johnson,
River City Science Academy and
Fletcher Middle School.
